Readity, operated by Voxwave LLC ("we", "us"), turns articles, web pages, PDFs, and documents you choose into natural-sounding audio. It is available as an iPhone app and as a browser extension for Chrome, and this policy covers both. It explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information.
The extension does nothing until you ask it to. It has no access to your browsing or your
history, and none to any tab you have not acted on: it uses Chrome's activeTab
permission, which grants access to a single tab only at the moment you click the Readity toolbar
button, and only for that visit. It does not run in the background, and it does not read pages you
have not chosen.
If you are not signed in, the extension reads the page aloud using a voice already installed on your computer. Nothing is sent anywhere — not to us, not to anyone else. The article text never leaves your device. Voices that Chrome routes over the network are deliberately excluded, so that this stays true — unless your computer has no offline voice installed at all, in which case Chrome's own voices are offered and Chrome, not Readity, handles that speech.
If you are signed in, the extension extracts the article from that page and sends the following to Readity's servers, so we can generate the audio and save the article to your library: the article's text, its title, the page's web address, and the addresses of images in the article so the reading view can show them.
We send this only for pages you actively choose to listen to. We do not collect the other pages you visit, the time you spend on them, or anything you do not press play on.
Pages you are signed in to. Because the extension reads the page you are already looking at, it can read articles behind a login or a paywall. If you choose to listen to such a page, that page's text is sent to our servers and to the speech provider that generates the audio, exactly as any other page would be. Please do not use Readity on pages whose content you are not free to send to a third party — confidential documents at work, for example.
What the extension stores in your browser: your Readity sign-in session, so you stay signed in; and a short list of the most recent page addresses you have listened to, mapped to the item each created in your library, so that listening to the same page again does not import it twice or charge your plan twice. Both are local to your browser, and removing the extension removes them.
Optional permission. The extension can keep its player visible after you navigate to another page, which requires permission to read the sites you visit. This is off unless you turn it on in the extension's settings, Chrome asks you before granting it, and declining changes nothing else. It is used only to show the player; it does not cause any additional page content to be sent to us.
Playback position. If you are signed in, we save how far through an article you are, so you can continue on your iPhone. This is tied to your account, not to your browser.
Your library is shared between the extension and the iPhone app. An article you listen to in the browser appears in your Readity library and can be opened, replayed or deleted from either.
We use trusted processors to run Readity. They handle data only to provide their service to us:
Text sent to a speech provider is used to generate your audio. We generate audio once and cache it, so replaying an article does not re-send its text. That cache is keyed on the text itself and is shared across accounts, so if someone else has already had the identical text read in the same voice, we reuse that audio rather than generating it again.
Where your data is processed. Readity is operated from the United States, and the providers above process data there. If you use Readity from outside the United States, your information is transferred there.
We keep your content and account data until you delete them. You can delete individual items, or delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. Deleting your account removes your library, the files you uploaded, and your account record, and cannot be undone.
Two details we would rather state than gloss: generated audio lives in a shared cache keyed on the text, so a recording is removed once no account still refers to it rather than at the instant you delete; and if you want your sign-in identity erased as well, email admin@readity.ai and we will remove it.
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
Readity is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to import and convert the content you add to Readity. Readity is intended for your personal use.
